Özet (Çeviri)
The fable of Alexander the Great is one of the major themes of world - and especially Islamic - literature. Alexander's adventures, mixed with superstitons by ancient historians and Kuranic interpreters, inspired poets and writers who in turn wrote many works based on these rich fables. Works based on this theme have been written in Arabic, Farsi, and Turkish literature. Of these works, one is known by the names“İskender-nâme”,“Kıssa-i İskender”, and“Kitâb-ı İskender”. Kitab-ı İskender [the Book of Alexander] is, in terms of word choice and descriptive style, one of the major works of the first period of Western (Oğuz) Turkish in the XIV-XV Centuries. The author, who was the brother of Ahmedî, is known as Hamzavî as his real name is unknown. It is a work of both poetry and prose. It is registered in the Türk Dil Kurumu (Turkish Language Corporation) library as manuscript number 150. With major sections missing from the beginning and end, this work which contained between 301a and 405a leafs, contains about 105 pages remaining. These we have translated, indexed, and examined in terms of phonetics, structure, and semantics. Kitab-ı İskender, while not contributing to our knowledge of Old Anatolian Turkish, is significant in terms of research regarding the prose literature of this period. This work of poetry and prose is able to give us a view of the features of XIV and XV Century Turkish prose, its folk language, expressive strength, vividness, and rich vocabulary. In Kıssa-ı İskender, the life and compaigns of Phillip's famous son Alexander are described. Later, the rise of the Prophet Muhammed, his life and the Holy Wars, the Caliphate era as well as well as Ottoman history are considered. Thus Alexander's life, mixed with myth, are transmitted in stories written in an adventurous style which both gives Islamic edification and entertains. The era that this work was written, the work itself, its author, as well its theme are discussed in the introduction to this Master's thesis. In addition, wnder the title of“Linguistic Features”, the work's phonetic, structural, and semantical features are examined. In the index, an alphabetical list of basic vocabulary, their meanings, and other possible forms of the words are given. An index of proper names has been included. Finally, a bibliography of related works and sources on this theme has been given.
