Özet

Bu çalışma, Romantizm kavramını ve onun Türk politik kültürüne yansımalarını monografik bir düzlemde ele almayı amaçlamaktadır. Bu bakımdan romantik dünya görüşünün kültürel bir hareket olmaktan çıkıp, nasıl politikleştiğine, hangi dinamikler çerçevesinde şekillenip, ne tür etkiler yarattığına bakılacaktır. Tezin birinci bölümünde Türk düşüncesinde Romantizmin izleri, ana hatları, genel karakteristik özellikleri ve edebiyattan politikaya yatay geçişleri resmedilmeye çalışılıyor. Burada“Bir Türk Romantizminden söz edilebilir mi?”sorusuna cevap aranacaktır. Muhtemelen çalışmanın en eleştirel ve sorun odaklı –dolayısıyla eleştirilmeye de en açık- bölümü burası olacaktır. Ruhçu söylemin, 'millet ideasını' nasıl sürekli ürettiğini sınamak için, toplumsal bilincin kendine seçtiği referanslara bakmak gerekmektedir. Bu yüzden takip eden bölüm, kavramın orijinal ifadesini başlığa taşıyarak 'Volksgeist'ı, milli ruh anlatısını, edebiyattan tarihe, politik söylemden kültür incelemesine uzanan bir yelpazede ortaya sermeyi amaçlıyor. Üçüncü bölüm, Romantizmin taşrasına odaklanıyor. Burada folklor, popülizm ve köycülük üçgeninde, romantik milliyetçiliğin kurumayan membaı olan sine-i millet aranıyor. Dördüncü bölüm,“milli romantizm”in milletle/halkla birlikte kutsallaştırdığı diğer aslî fetiş nesnelerini sorgulamak üzere, Romantizm ile devlet ve vatan mitolojisinin etkileşimini ele alıyor. Buradaki tartışmalar devletin Romantiklerin nazarında neden ve nasıl bu denli 'yüce' ve 'muteber', vatanın nasıl bu kadar 'mübarek' ve 'cennet parçası' bir şeye dönüştüğünü, bu dönüşüm sırasında milli romantik duyuş bağlamında devlet-millet-memleket teslis inancının nasıl biçimlendiğini çeşitli örnek metinler eşliğinde irdeliyor. Son bölüm ise, konunun sürekli yeniden üretimini sağlayan tarihî boyutunu anlamayı, anlamlandırmayı amaçlayarak, romantik tarih yazımı ve tarihî romantizm konusuna ayrılmış bulunuyor. Burada da edebî romantiklerin, romantik tarihçilerle bilerek-bilmeyerek birbirlerini destekleyip bir efsane yarattıklarını ve bundan şovenleşebilen bir destansı tarih anlayışının türediğini söyleyen değerlendirmeler inceleniyor. Çalışmanın sonuç kısmı ise, bu tartışmaların geniş bir özetini ve Türk politik kültüründe Romantizmin yerine dair kimi değerlendirmeleri dile getirmeyi amaçlıyor.

This study basicly focuses on the concept of 'Romanticism' and its political bearings in a kind of monographic approach. The chief interest here will be the relation between 'Romanticism' and 'national identity', even though, as we shall see, these two notions or evolutionary trends cannot be understood without the context of the other great changes of the modern times. A consideration of the relationship between Romanticism and national consciousness suggests from the beginning some issues, or problematic themes, that we need to consider at first. Romantic world view in this regard is an intellectual movement which came out of the cultural, philosophical and political channels of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Thereof, the study consists five main sections. The first is a general discussion, which's intended to characterize the spirit of Turkish Romanticism, if we can talk about such a thing. This 'general'ness and the outlines of modern Turkish thought, includes what Turkish Romanticism' basis is, and what is not. Besides it is mentioned here that how to classify the historical periods and basic problems of Turkish social-political thought in accordance with Romantic world-view. Probably, it is the most critical and problem-focused part of the dissertation why it's argued many essential questions on the roots of modern Turkey. For understanding how spiritual discourses produce and reproduce the 'nation idea', it is a must to seek for the references of social conscious. In the second part of the study, there will be some ideantifications and assessments on this matter via focusing on 'Volksgeist' and the narrative on 'national spirit' among literature, history-writing and political life. And the third section is about the 'back side of the country', as we named here. It will be argued the role and importance of Romanticism in the context of folklore, populism and peasantism among Turkish intelligentsia. Here the main thematic emphasis is particularly on“bosom of the nation”that romantic nationalism likes to (ab)use. The fourth section is an unending debate over the fetish objects of the 'national romanticism', with a special interest on the interrelationship between the State and Homeland mythologies within the political theology. The primary target here is to search for how and why the State could be such a sublime and gorgeous, and how and why the Land became so 'paradise' and 'holy' in the views of Romantics. The final chapter is for arguing and understanding the power of the romantic historiography or so-called the historical romanticisim in writing. There are, of course, lots of dimensions in Romanticism and History and this is what will be tried to examine with naming some noticed historians and authors from Turkey. Finally study comes to an end with a general evaluations, estimations and some conclusions about romantic way of thinking and Romanticism in Turkish political culture.
