This study reviews some of the literature related to the history, history teaching and the influence of politics on history teaching. Besides, it looks some works on the philosophy of education which are dealing with the use of education for political purposes.It particularly considers the influence of politic and political though on history teaching in the Turkish and English educational contexts. It examines these contexts to learn how politics directly or indirectly affects schooling, consequently and more importantly history teaching. It also attempts to compare and contrast the characteristics of the political influence affecting history teaching in Turkey and England.The study based on the analysis of two history curricula chosen from Turkey and England, their related documents and two textbooks taken from these countries. The aim for analysing this documentary is to find out the extent to which politics and political thought influence history teaching in these two contexts. It also benefits from the data obtained from the interviews, which were conducted with history teachers in England and Turkey. The intention behind the implementing those interviews is to test some information obtained from documentary analysis and to reveal attitudes, feelings and thoughts of teachers towards external factors influencing history teaching.
