The purpose of this paper is to investigate whether the UK's zero carbon standards for housing can be a solution for CO2 reduction in Turkey. By testing this UK strategy on Turkey and developing it according to Turkey's conditions, initial research shows that the UK strategy could be used in other countries to tackle Climate Change. In the building sector effective usage of the city's resources can be achieved to tackle climate change and improve the quality of life for inhabitants. In response to this idea a survey is conducted in populous Istanbul by modeling a new build home so that the possibility of being zero carbon in Istanbul is suggested with the argument of the differences between the existing and the proposed buildings are portrayed. A hybrid of environmental transformations is proposed to reduce the energy demand first, in line with the Zero carbon energy hierarchy. This is followed by a rigorous study of appropriate renewable energy technologies to meet the remaining energy demand. In view of the lack of a feasibility tool in Turkey to date a Renewable energy toolkit is developed.
