Özet (Çeviri)

Autism is a neuro-developmental disorder primarily characterised by deficits in social, communication, stereotype and restricted behaviour in an individual's life. A lack of joint attention skills is one of the main indicators of autism in early years. Previous research on autism spectrum disorder has focused mainly on genetic factors and sibling studies. The siblings of children with autism are at greater risk of developing autism. This study compared the response to joint attention behaviour in siblings of children with autism spectrum disorder (N= 15, M= 15.52) and siblings of children with typical development (N= 9, M=15.1). The report analyses the data of the response to joint attention behaviour of siblings at risk for autism at 15 months old. Coding the joint attention behaviour used a system based on the BSCS (Early Social Communication Scale). In addition, response to joint attention and communication and language development were compared using the Communicative Development Inventory Scale (CDI) scores of siblings at 15 months old. Finally, responses to joint attention behaviour and mental development were compared using the Mullen Early Learning Composite (Mullen-ELC) scale scores of siblings at 15 months. With regards to the results of the response to joint attention behaviour, there were no statistically significant differences between the high-risk siblings and low risk control group. CDI scores and response to joint attention task scores did not show a statistically significant relation in 15 months old children. Mullen- ELC scores of siblings and response to joint attention behaviour task scores did not show the relevancy in 15 months. The findings are discussed in relation to current studies on tlie response to joint attention beliaviour in siblings at high ris[< for autism. Also the findings of the communication and language development of siblings at 15 months and the mental development of siblings at 15 months are discussed in relation to previous research.
