Population of this world has more than doubled at the 50 years and it will continue to grow even faster. This will cause cities to grow bigger and constant construction of urban structures will be needed to create new livable areas. This will result more energy need in the coming decades. Today the most utilized energy sources are fossil fuels but we have a limited reserve in our world and cause a lot of pollution while they are being processed. This is where the importance of renewable energy is realized. Sources like sun, wind, hydro power, thermal power and many other renewable energy are infinite, free and environmental friendly. Wind energy is one of the most important sources in renewable energy. Through out the history humans have been utilizing the use of wind and still it is still being used by as means of transportation, pumping, energy production and many other ways. Today it is a part of the growing sector of the renewable energy. Leaded by EU Wind Energy sector is growing and developing each year massively and as the technology grows the amount of energy generated from a single turbine increases dramatically as the cost of this process drops. In the coming decades this sector will generate lots of quality jobs for the people all around the world. that is why Urban Wind Energy is getting more attention for the past ten years as the need for energy consumption increases and as the importance of global warming is accepted worldwide. There are many studies concerning the Urban Wind Energy Turbines but the complicated structure of urban canopy and the low speed turbulent wind proves to be a challenge. This paper will try to introduce the concept of Wind energy and Urban Wind Turbines in today's world and hopefully provide a better understanding about the interactions of low speed urban wind with urban building designs. To achieve these objectives a series of modeling was done using Solidworks and Solidworks Flow Simulation, results show that the small modifications done at the building construction plan can have a important role on channeling the wind, and effecting the speed. These modifications can be applied to urban structures easily because they are not complex, cities like Guildford might be a good place to start.
