Özet (Çeviri)

Interviewing is at the heart of any police investigation and thus is the root of achieving justice in society(Milne, Shaw & Bull, 2007, p.65).There are two aims in all investigations; firstly to find out what happened and whether it was a crime, and secondly, who did it (Milne, Shaw & Bull, 2007, p.65). Thus, the interview techniques employed by police officers tend to be at the centre of much research. One of the main functions of the police is to investigate crimes and criminal activity (Rogers &Lewis, 2007, p.150). Traditionally the police have been seen as experts in this field though few received training (Great Britain. Home Office,2002, p.2).The Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984(PACE)along with its Codes of Practice, is one of the key elements in the framework of legislation, providing powers the police need to investigate crime (Rogers & Lewis, 2007, p.152).The PACE made significant changes to the detention and treatment of those suspected of criminal offences in England and Wales. These changes allow researchers to hear an accurate record of the interview(Griffiths & Milne, 2006, p.169).The main aims of videotaped testimony are to enable children to give evidence prior to court, to reduce the stress of giving evidence in court, and to increase the quality and completeness of their evidence in court (Bussey, 2009, p.221). Effective interviewing of witnesses requires a great deal of skill and ability on the part of the interviewer (Rogers & Lewis, 2007, p.163).Interviewing children is a complicated endeavour. Recent psychological research has found that the quality of children's reports is dependent on the quality of the investigative interview (London, 2008, p.48).
