Özet (Çeviri)
“The anscritlanguage, whatever be its antiquity, is of a wonderful structure; more perfeci than the Greek, more copiou than the Latin, and more exquisitely refined than either, yel bearing to both of the m a s tranger affinity, both in the root s of ver b and the forms of grammar, than could pas ibly have been produced by accident,- so strong indeed, that no philologer could examine them al/three, without believing them to have prungfrom same comman source, which, perhaps, no langer exists. There isa s imilar reason, though not quite so forcible, for supposing that both the Gothick and the Celtick, though blended w ith a very different idiom, had the same origin with the anscrit; and the Old Persian might be added to the same family”Sir William Jones, 1786 Jones, who is considered to be the father of histarical linguistics made this statement in hi famous omparativ work The anscrit Language in 1786. Although his analysis was mostly in rror, Jones was nev rth 1 ss one of the first linguists to use the comparativ method in his studies. This statement is an example of William Jones s comparative work on anscrit languages. lt also showshow long people tried to compare di fferent languages and how this continues in the mod m times as well. lt may be considered as anather motivation for this study as over the years many linguists tried to compare different languag s and this will be anoth r on of those studies. This study will mostly aim to analyze how language changes ina histarical cantext by using the comparative method to compare and contrast Turkish and English languages to see how they changed over the years and whether they share a similar patternin this change. For thi s purposesome questions that I will try to find answers are what is language in general what kin d of problems can o c ur if a language remains static?, why does a language need to change and do all languages follow a similar devetopmental pattem even if they are uniquely differ nt from one anoth r? In short is there a common ground between two very different languages? Th structur of this study will include the analysis of language, the theory of languag change in g neral and th comparisons of language change in English and Turkish in detail and fınally a practical part which will ineJude examples of polysemantic peculiarities in both English and Turkish. The study will utilize both theoretical and practical methodology. The benefıt ofthis study will be to show future generations and linguists in particular, the importance of language change and to give theman idea on whether it' s something positiv or n gative. To make them thinkabout the future of the languages that they speak and to show them the importance of languageintheir lives. Before the start of this analysis though, Jet' s tak e a look atsome of the reasons and aims of this study. ow one may wondeı;. why these two languages in particular are selected for this study, there are two reasons for this. First of all they ar very different in som aspects and very similar in others. They are very different grarnmatically but similar in the huge amount of borrowing and polysemantic wordsin their vocabulary. Also because Turkish is the native tongue of the studier, it is interesting to analyze and compare i ts devetopmental patterns with his second language English to see wher th y appearsimilar and where they differ. In ord r to understand the th ory of language change effectively one must thoroughly study and analyze the concept of language. An introduction to language is therefore required.
