The Russian-G orgian War occurr d in ugust 2008 signifıcantly aJtered the geopoliticaJ landscape of the region and thus Turkey had faced with vital challenges in regards to it relationship with TO and with Russia. The conflict between the two countries placed Turkey in a diffıcuJt po ition and it was perceived asa major threat to Turkey's national selfinterest, s a result, Turkish policy makers con tructed their rationaJity in such a way that !ed policy maker to the conclu ion that a neutral stance was the best policy to preserve national elf- interest and even so as to advance the position of the country in relation to i ts neighbors. The primary purpo of this master s thesis is to question whether or not Turkey was a rational actor during and in the aftermath of the Georgian W ar in 2008. In this context, fırst examined was the Turkey's non-military involvement in the War in regards to the country s ability to advance of her own national elf-interest and the ratianale and r asons behind Turk y neutral for ign polic tance. Furth rmore Turkey's capability, asa regional pJayer, to change or to protect the tatu quo in the region during the Georgian War vis-a-vi the Russian Federation and in relation to her Western allies aJso explicated.
