Özet
Sanatta temsiliyet kavramı imge, sembol ve gösterge kavramları ile örtüşen ve ayrışan yanları ile birlikte ele alınarak tanımlanabilir bir olgudur. Bu olgu farklı kültürel yapılarda ve zaman dilimlerinde farklı görsellikler içerse de temel değerlerini oluşturan kaynaklar modern sanata değin toplumsal bir karakter taşır. Heykel sanatında plastik dilin en önemli araçları olan oran, biçim, mekân gibi değerler, doğrudan temsil ögeleri olarak görev üstlenebildikleri gibi diğer araçlar (simgesel motifler, nesne yorumları, malzeme seçimleri, teknik ve yöntem) üzerinde yönlendirici etkilere sahiptirler. Belirli simgeler uzun tarihsel evreler içinde anlam çerçevesini değiştirmeden yer alabilirken, bazı simgeler anlam kaymaları yaşamaktadır. Bazı simgeler de onu oluşturan değerler sistemi çok değiştiği ya da ortadan kalktığı için belirli bir kültür çevresinin kullandığı bir temsil aracı olarak sınırlı bir üretimin temsiliyet motifine dönüşmektedir. Günümüz sanatı anlam kurucu öğeler olarak temsiliyet ögelerinin çok büyük dönüşümler yaşadığı bir sürecin sanatıdır. Tarihte uzun yıllar boyunca özellikle“benzerlik”çerçevesinde sorgulanan temsiliyet kavramı günümüzde tamamen farklı bir yapı içine yerleşmiştir.

Concept of representation in art is a phenomenon which can be defined together with the consideration of its features overlapping with and differing from concepts of image, symbol and indication. Even if this phenomenon comprises different images in different cultural structures and time periods, the sources which makes up its basic values possess a social characteristic in terms of modern art. In sculpture art values such as proportion, form and place as the most important devices of plastic language can serve directly as representation elements and at the same time make guiding influences on other devices too ( symbolic motives, interpretations of objects, material choises, techniques and methods). While some symbols can remain without undergoing any changes in the framework of their meanings throughout long historical periods, some symbols can be subject to meaning shifts. Some other symbols, on the other hand, turn into representation motive of a limited production as the representation device used by a specific cultural environment either because the system of values forming them up is changed immensely or no longer exists. Today's art is the art of an era during which representation elements underwent very drastic changes as meaning-designing elements. Representation concept,examined within the framework of“similarity”for many years in history, is today situated in a completely different structure.
