Özet

Bu çalışmanın amacı, gazete haberlerindeki sosyobilimsel konuların argümantasyon yöntemiyle tartışılmasının 7.sınıf öğrencilerinin eleştirel düşünme, karar verme ve argümantasyon becerilerine etkisini incelemektir. Araştırmada yarı deneysel araştırma modellerinden ön test- son test deney kontrol gruplu model kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu 25'i deney, 25'i kontrol grubu olmak üzere 50 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Kontrol grubunda dersler programın önerdiği gibi araştırma sorgulamaya dayalı yaklaşım yöntem ve teknikleriyle işlenirken, deney grubunda programın önerdiği yöntem ve tekniklerin yanında sosyobilimsel konular içerikli gazete haberlerinden oluşan argümantasyona dayalı etkinlikler kullanılmıştır. Dersler 7 hafta süresince araştırmacı tarafından yürütülmüştür. Araştırmanın verileri nicel ve nitel yöntemlerle elde edilmiştir. Nicel veriler Demir (2006) tarafından geliştirilen Eleştirel Düşünme Beceri Testi ve Ercan ve Bozkurt (2013) tarafından geliştirilen Karar Verme Beceri Testi ile nitel veriler de araştırmacı tarafından hazırlanan argümantasyona dayalı etkinliklerden elde edilen deney grubundaki öğrencilerin yazılı raporları ile elde edilmiştir. Uygulanan yöntemin etkisini incelemek amacıyla testler deney ve kontrol grubu öğrencilerine ön test ve son test olarak uygulanmış ve gruplar arası karşılaştırmalar yapılmıştır. Eleştirel Düşünme Beceri Testi ve Karar Verme Beceri Testi soruları SPSS-21 programı kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Mann-Whitney U Testi ile Wilcoxon İşaretli Sıralar Testi uygulanmıştır. Öğrencilerin oluşturdukları argümantasyon seviyeleri Sadler ve Fowler' in argümantasyon değerlendirme rubriğine göre çözümlenmiştir. Böylelikle öğrencilerin argümantasyon oluşturma seviyelerindeki değişim gözlenmiştir. Sosyobilimsel konuların gazete haberleri kullanılarak argümantasyon yöntemiyle tartışılmasının öğrencilerin eleştirel düşünme ve karar verme becerilerinin gelişiminde araştırma sorgulamaya dayalı öğretimden daha etkili olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Öğrencilerin argümantasyon seviyeleri süreç başına göre artış göstermiştir. Öğrenciler oluşturdukları iddialarını gazete haberlerini kullanarak desteklemişlerdir. Çalışmada ayrıca öğrencilerin oluşturdukları argümantasyon seviyelerinin çalışılan konu ve geliştirilen etkinliklere bağlı olduğu gözlenmiştir.

The purpose of the this study is to investigate the effect of discussion on the socio-scientific subject in the newspaper based on argumentation 7. Grades students' critical thinking, decision making and argumentation skills. In this study pre test-post test that is a model of semi-experimental research model is used. 50 students participate in this study, 25 of them are the experiment and 25 of them are control group. In control group lessons were processed with the methods and techniques of inquiry-based approach that the programme suggests. In the experiment group lessons were performed with the methods and techniques which the programme suggests and also performed with discussion activities of socio-scientific subjects in the newspaper reports based on argumentation. Lessons were conducted by researchers during 7 weeks. The data was obtained from the qualitative and quantative methods. Quantative data was collected by the Critical Thinking Skills Test which was developed by Demir (2006) and Decision Making Skills Test developed by Ercan ve Bozkurt (2013). The qualitative data was collected from the students' inscribed reports obtained from experiment groups' argumentation-based activities that is prepared by the researcher. Questions of Critical Thinking Skills Test and Decision Making Skills Test were analyzed using SPSS-21 package program. Mann-Whitney U test and Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test were applied. Argumentation levels formed by students are analyzed according to Sadler and Fowler's argumentation evaluation rubric. Thus, changes in the levels of students to create the argumentation were observed. It is concluded that discussion on the socio-scientific subject in the newspaper based on argumentation is more effective than inquiry based approach in developing students' critical thinking and decision making skills. Students' argumentation levels have increased compared to the beginning of the process. Students support their claims by using the newspaper reports. Furthermore,s it is found that argumentation of the quality that students created were related to the examined subjects and developed activities.
