Özet
Günümüzde engelli bireylerin sosyal yaşama katılımını güçlendirmek toplumsal yaşamın bir görevi haline gelmektedir. Bu doğrultuda çalışmada, üniversite yapılarını kullanan engellilerin mekan kullanımı, erişim problemleri, eksiklikler ve sorunların irdelenmesi amacıyla yapılmıştır. Çalışma, yerinde inceleme, literatür araştırması ve gözleme dayalı olarak gerçekleştirilmiş, Maltepe Üniversitesi ve Sabancı Üniversitesinde engelli birey ve birimlerle röportajlar yapılmıştır. Bu anlamda dört bölümden oluşan tez çalışmasının amacı, Engellilerin eğitim yapılarında karşılaştığı sorunların irdelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Seçilen iki üniversite örneği üzerinden engelli bağlamında ulusal ve uluslararası standartların eğitim yapılarına nasıl yansıtıldığının ortaya konulması hedeflenmiştir. Giriş bölümünde tezin amacı, yöntemi ve kapsamı belirtilmiştir. İkinci bölüm, engelli tanım ve kavramlarına yönelik literatür araştırmasıdır. Bu aşamada, konu ile ilgili yapılan akademik çalışmalar ve konu ile ilgili diğer kaynaklar incelenmiştir. Üçüncü bölümde engelli bireyin eğitim ve üniversite yapılarında erişilebilir mekansal özellikler üzerinden engellilik kavramı irdelenmiştir. Çalışmanın dördüncü bölümünde seçilen iki üniversitenin engelli erişimine uygunluğu örnekler üzerinden ele alınmış, analizleri yapılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda ortaya çıkan farklılıklar tespit edilerek engelli bireyin yaşamında engeller oluşturmayacak öneriler verilmiştir.

Today, strengthening the participation of people with disabilities in the social life becomes a duty of the society. In this respect, the purpose of the present study is to investigate the usage, accessibility problems, deficiencies and issues of the people with disabilities using the university structures. The study is conducted as on-site inspection, literature research and observational research and interviews with the people with disabilities and units in Maltepe University and Sabancı University are made. .In this sense the purpose of the present thesis consisting of four chapters is to investigate the problems encountered by the people with disabilities in educational structures. It is aimed to demonstrate how the national and international standards are reflected in the educational structures in terms of disabilities by way of the two selected university sample. The purpose, method and the scope of the thesis is indicated in the introduction. The second chapter is the literature research on definitions and concepts of disability. Acedemic studies on the subject and other relevant sources are investigated at this stage. The third chapter investigates the concept of disability of the person with disabilities by way of accessible spatial characteristics in educational and university structures. The fourth chapter of the study addresses the conformity of the two selected universities in terms of accessibility intended for people for disabilities by way of examples and analyzes are conducted. The differences revealed as a result of the study are identified and suggestions for eliminating the obstacles in the lives of people with disabilities are made.
