Özet
İnsan ilişkilerinden felsefeye kadar birçok alanda, terimlerin anlamının belirsizliğinden kaynaklanan problemler mevcuttur. Bu problemlerin çözümü için herhangi bir terimin, cümlenin veya ifadenin anlamının neliğini belirlemek gerekmektedir. Söz konusu neliği sorgulamak ise, dildeki her bir terimin anlamını belirlemekle mümkündür. Anlamı belirlenmesi gereken terimlerin çoğu, dış dünyada var olan nesnelerle ilgili bilgi vermek için kullanılır. Bu durum söz konusu nesnelerin anlamının yanında ayrıca gönderimlerinin nasıl belirleneceği sorusunu da cevaplamayı gerektirir. Frege, Russell gibi birçok düşünür bu amaçla dilde bulunan adların, betimlemelerin, bağlaçların anlambilimini yaparak dildeki muğlaklıkları ortadan kaldırmaya ve nesnel bir dil oluşturmaya çalışmışlardır. Ancak söz konusu düşünürler dilin büyük bir kısmını kaplayan bağlam duyarlı terimlerin anlamının ne olduğuna dair çalışmalarda bulunmamışlardır. Bağlam bağımlı olan bu terimlerin anlambilimi yapılmaksızın nesnel bir dilden söz etmek mümkün değildir. Bu doğrultuda çalışmamızda anlambilimin bu eksikliğini gidermek adına David Kaplan'ın ortaya koyduğu Bağlam Duyarlı Terimler kuramını ele almakta ve kuramın bu sorunu tamamen çözüp çözemediğinin bir değerlendirmesini sunmaya çalışmaktayız.

From human relations to philosophy, many problems arise because of the indefiniteness or indeterminacy of terms. In order to solve such problems, we need to determine the whatness or quiddity of the meaning of any term, sentence or statement. Questioning such quiddity requires the determination of how the terms of the language acquire their meaning in the first place. Most of the terms the meanings of which we need to determine the meanings are used to inform us about the objects in the external world. In cases of such terms any inquiry into the determination of the meanings of terms as well involve an answer to the question how we decide the reference of the terms. For this purpose, many philosophers like Frege and Russell in order to eliminate ambiguity in language and make language more objective endeavor to do semantics of names and descriptions. But they didn't work on the semantics of indexical terms which encompass a large portion of language. It's not possible to complete the semantics of natural languages without doing semantics of context sensitive terms like indexicals. In our thesis we present and critically discuss David Kaplan's theory of indexical terms and question whether or not this theory provides a solution to the problems concerning context sensitive terms in semantics.
