Özet
Tek-parti dönemi Türkiyesi'nde resim alanıyla siyasal alanın ilişkisini inceleyen bu tez, ülkenin modernleşme ve ulus-devletleşme süreçleri içinde bu iki alanın etkileşimini tartışmaya açmaktadır. Bu dinamiklerin ortaya çıkardığı söylem, ideoloji ve sanatsal patronaj konuları, bu tezde Türkiye'de özerk bir resim alanının ortaya çıkma süreciyle ilişkili bir şekilde incelenmektedir. Sanat Eski Mısır'dan beri iktidarların kendilerini güçlendirmek için başvurduğu bir alan olmuştur. Siyasi iktidarın sanata yönelttiği beklentilere ek olarak, sanatın ne derece politik olduğu da önemli bir sorudur.“İnkılâbı Nakşedecek Resimler”: Modern Türkiye'de Sanat Alanı ve Siyaset (1923-1945) başlıklı bu tez, sanatın hem iktidarın kontrol ve denetim altındaki amaçları çerçevesinde şekillendiği süreçle hem de ülkenin içinden geçtiği sosyal, kültürel ve siyasal süreçler bağlamında dönüştüğü süreçle ilgilenmektedir.

This thesis examining the relationship between the field of painting and the political field during the single-party era in Turkey aims to discuss the interaction of the both fields in the modernization and nation-building processes of the country. In this thesis, the issues of discourse, ideology and artistic patronage that these dynamics bring forth are evaluated in relation to the emergence of an autonomous field of painting in Turkey. Since the Ancient Egypt art has been a field that authorities have approached with the aim of strengthening their power. In addition to the expectations political power has had from arts, how much political an art can be is also an important question. This thesis entitled“Painting the Revolution”: The Field of Art and Politics (1923-1945) in Modern Turkey is interested not only with the process in which art is shaped in the framework of power's aims to control and observe, but also with the process that it is transformed in the context of social, cultural and political processes that the country went through.
