Özet
Kırım Savaşı, Rusya'nın Osmanlı topraklarına doğru genişleyerek güç kazanma yönündeki politikasının bir sonucu olarak ortaya çıkmıştı. Ancak Rusya'nın Doğu politikası dönemin en önemli gücü olan İngiltere'nin menfaatleriyle çakışmaktaydı. Zira İngiltere, Hindistan'a giden yolda Rus engeli ile karşılaşmaktan çekinmekte ve bu sebeple Osmanlı toprak bütünlüğünü savunmaktaydı. Çar Nikola olası bir İngiliz muhalefetini önlemek adına önce“hasta adamın”toprakları üzerinde birlikte hareket etmek için İngilizlere işbirliği yapmayı teklif edecekti. Kırım Savaşı öncesinde İngiliz-Rus ilişkilerinde olumlu bir hava gözlemlenirken, İngiltere, önce tarafsız bir politika benimseyecek fakat İngiliz Parlamentosu'nda Rusya'ya muhalefet eden siyasal kanat ile kamuoyunun artan baskısı sonucunda Rusya karşısında Osmanlı Devleti'nin yanında savaşa girecektir. Çalışmamız bir İngiliz-Rus savaşı olarak da görülen Kırım Savaşı'nda İngiltere'nin izlemiş olduğu politikaları incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Bu doğrultuda İngiltere'nin Kırım Savaşı öncesinde izlemiş olduğu Doğu politikası, İngiliz-Rus ilişkileri, İngiltere'de kamuoyunun ne denli belirleyici olduğunu, savaşta İngiltere'nin diplomasi, ekonomi, sağlık ve sosyal alandaki etkileri ile savaş sonrasında izlemiş olduğu politikalar üzerinde durulacaktır.

As a result of the policies constituted and pursued by Russia which aimed to gain territory and power at Ottoman expense, Crimean War broke out. Nevertheless, the Eastern policies of Russia were in contradiction with the interests of Britain which was the great power of the era. Yet, It did hesitate to be confronted with Russian on its route to India, so the Ottoman territorial integrity was defended. In that period, Tzar Nicholas II to begin with tried to eliminate a probable opposition coming from British side, and then tried its chance to build up a cooperation with Britain on the territories of the sick man. As a more positive relation was being observed between these two states before the Crimean War, Britain initially had adopted a neutral policy. However, at the end Britain entered the war against Russia due to the efforts of the opposing side in the British Parliament and the rising pressure of the public opinion. In this reseach, we have aimed to examine to the foreign policies of Great Britain during the Crimean War which may also be perceived as a British-Russian one. In this respect, we will touch upon to the Eastern policies of Britain before the war, the British-Russian relations, the influence of public opinion in the process of policy making in Britain as well as the policies of Britain in the fields of diplomacy, economy, health and social life during the war and the policies of British government after the war.
