Özet
Bu çalışmada, İkinci Sofizm'in mimarları olan I. ve II. yy.'larda yaşamış Hellen kökenli entelektüellerin (DiōnKhrysostomos, Ploutarkhos, Epiktētos, Arrianos, Appianos, Pausanias, Aristeidēs, Loukianos, Pseudo-Loukianos ve Galenos) Principatus Devri'ne ve imparatorlarına (Marcus Aurelius'un ölümüne değin) bakışı incelenmektedir. İki ana bölümden oluşan çalışmanın ilk bölümünde, ilgili yazarların Roma Devleti'ne ilişkin görüşleri kronolojik sırayla ele alınmakta ve böylece her bir yazarın eserinde Roma imparatorlarının ve dönemlerinin nasıl yankılandığı gösterilmektedir. İkinci bölümdeyse, öncelikle, Augustus'tan MarcusAurelius'a değin tahta çıkan Roma imparatorlarının her biri, söz konusu Hellen yazarların görüşleri ışığında tarihsel açıdan incelenmekte; ardından yazarların, eserlerinde Roma İmparatorluğu'yla ve Romalılaşma'yla bağlantılı olarak belli başlı hususlarda gösterdikleri olumlu/olumsuz tepkiler tek tek ele alınıp, entelektüellerin sosyal konumları, yazınsal sınıfları ve coğrafi aidiyetleri göz önünde bulundurularak değerlendirilmektedir. Nihayet, Hellen yazarlarının gözüyle Roma Devleti ve imparatorları tarihsel bir çerçevede tasvir edilmekte ve ayrıca söz konusu yazarların Roma Devleti'ne bir direniş mi, yoksa sadakat mi gösterdikleri belirlenmeye çalışılmaktadır.

In this study, the views of the Greek intellectuals (Dio Chrysostom, Plutarch, Epictetus, Arrian, Appian, Pausanias, Aelius Aristides, Lucian, Pseudo-Lucian and Galen), who were the great masters of the Second Sophistic and lived in the first and second century AD, on the Principate and emperors (to the death of Marcus Aurelius) are examined. In the first part of the study which consists of two main parts, the views of the writers on the Roman state are addressed in chronological order and by this way, how the Roman emperors and their periods were echoed in the works of each writer is indicated. In the second part, each of the Roman emperors who succeeded to the throne from Augustus to Marcus Aurelius, is examined historically in the light of the views of the Greek writers; then, the positive/negative reactions of the writers in their works on the main issues in relation with the Roman empire and the Romanization are discussed one by one and evaluated by considering the social positions, literary classes and geographical belongingness of the intellectuals. Finally, the Roman empire and emperors are described with the eyes of the Greek writers within an historical framework, and furthermore the study tries to put forward whether the writers resisted against the Roman Empire or displayed loyalty.
