Özet
Matematik birikimli bir bilim dalıdır ve bir önceki bilgiler ve kavramlar, bir sonrakiler için bir basamak oluşturur, dolayısıyla öğrencinin zihnindeki hatalı öğrenme, diğer öğrenmeleri de olumsuz etkiler, konuya ilişkin doğru öğrenmelerin oluşmasına izin vermez. Bu nedenle matematik dersinde yapılan hatalar ve hataların nedenlerinin tespit edilmesi önemlidir. Matematikte en çok hata yapılan konulardan biri cebirsel ifadeler konusudur. Cebirsel ifadeler konusu matematiğin diğer konuları arasında bir köprü görevi görmektedir. Cebirsel ifadeler konusunda yapılan hatalar diğer konuların öğrenimini de olumsuz etkileyecektir. Dolayısıyla cebirsel ifadeler konusu için hata ortadan kaldırılması gereken olumsuz bir durumdur. Bu da ancak hataların tespiti ve nedenlerinin bilinmesi ile mümkündür. Bu bağlamda, bu çalışmanın amacı, ortaokul 7. sınıf öğrencilerinin cebirsel ifadeler konusunda yaptıkları hatalar ve hataların nedenlerini incelemektir. Bu amaç doğrultusunda çalışmanın örneklemini; 2013-2014 öğretim yılında Trabzon il merkezindeki ortaokullarda öğrenim görmekte olan 150, 7. Sınıf öğrencisi oluşturmaktadır. Çalışmada öğrencilerin cebir konusunda hatalarını tespit edebilmek için cebir bilgi testi uygulanmış ve yapılan hataların nedenlerini tespit edebilmek için yarı yapılandırılmış mülakat yapılmıştır. Bu mülakatlardan elde edilen verilerde içerik analizi yöntemi ile analiz edilmiştir. Araştırmadan elde edilen verilerden, öğrencilerin cebirsel ifadeler konusundaki bilgilerinin istenilen düzeyde olmadığı ve uygulanan cebir bilgi testinde birçok hata yapıldığı görülmüştür. Yapılan bu hatalardan bazıları, öğrencinin değişkeni görmezden gelmesi, verilen cebirsel ifadeyi denkleme dönüştürerek çözmesi, soruda verilen değişken yerine x değişkenini kullanması ve verilen probleme uygun denklemi yanlış kurmasıdır. Yapılan mülakatlardan da bu hataların nedenlerinin; öğrencinin işlem içindeki değişkene bir anlam yükleyememiş olması, bilinmeyen ile değişken kavramlarını ayırt edememesi, değişken ifadesini x ifadesi ile özdeşleştirmiş olması, aritmetiksel işlemlerdeki bilgi eksikliği ve cebir konusuna ayrılan zamanın yetersiz olması olarak tespit edilmiştir.

Mathematics is an accumulative science, and previous information and concepts make up a step for the subsequent ones; and therefore, the incorrect learning in a student's mind negatively affects subsequent learning and does not let correct learning in relation to the subject occur. Hence, it is important to determine mistakes made in mathematics lessons and the reasons for these mistakes. Algebraic expressions are among the subjects in mathematics, in which students make the most mistakes. The subject of algebraic expressions acts as a bridge between other subjects of mathematics. Mistakes made in the subject of algebraic expressions will also negatively affect the learning of other subjects. Therefore, themistake is a negative condition that should be eliminated for the subject of algebraic expressions. This is only possible by determining mistakes and knowing their reasons. In this context, the aim of this study is to investigate the mistakes made by secondary school 7th-grade students in relation to algebraic expressions and the reasons for these mistakes. In accordance with this aim, the sample of the study consists of 150 7th-grade students studying at secondary schools in Trabzon city centre in the 2013-2014 academic year. In the study, a knowledge test was applied in order to determine the mistakes made by the students in the subject of algebra, and a semi-structured interview was held in order to determine the reasons for the mistakes made. The data obtained from these interviews were analysed using the content analysis method. From the data obtained from the study, it was observed that the students' knowledge of algebraic expressions was not at the desired level, and many mistakes were made in the algebra knowledge test applied. Some of these mistakes made are the student's ignoring the variable, solving the given algebraic expression by transforming it into an equation, using the x variable instead of the variable given in the question, and establishing the equation for the given problem incorrectly. From the interviews held, the reasons for these mistakes were determined as the student's failure to attribute a meaning to the variable in the operation, failure to distinguish the concepts of unknown and variable, identifying the expression of avariable with the x expression, the lack of knowledge in mathematical operations, and the insufficiency of the time allocated to the subject of algebra.
