RflANAGERflENT STYLES İN HIGH SCHOOLS (Ankara Case) The purpose of this study was to identify management styles in Ankara general high schools. A survey research design was employed to investigate tie purpose of the study. The data gathering instrument, management styles questionnaire; was developed by the researcher. Separate questionnaire forms were developed for teachers and prinripals. A panel of experts assisted to the development of the questionnaire. Hundred questionnaires were pilot tested. Modifications were done on the questionnaire items on the basis of the pilot study. However, a formal reliability test was not conducted to determine item and the whole questionnaire reliability. The final questionnaire was sent to 355 teachers and 53 princ'pais. 304 questionnaires from teachers and 44 questionnaires from principals were returned. Descriptive statistics were employed through the use of mean, standard deviation, t-test for independent samples,and variance analysis. Apha coefficient was on 0.05 level for the significance tests. T-test was conducted to test teachers ' perceptions for gender and education level. One-dmensional variance analysis was employed for teachers' experience and field. The findings of the study showed that both teachers and principals perceived a medium level of autocratic, custodial, supportive, and collegial management styles. In general, multiple management styles were presented by the principals. Princ'pais were able to present on appropriate management style under the different circumstances. None of the school principals displayed only one of the management style. These findings indicate that the princpals were flexble and contingent in their management styles.,& K
