SUMMARY After the Ast/ta families lost their power the Turgesh who was one of the branches of the Western Göktürks placed Aşifts family and established their hegemony and brought together all of the branches of the Wersten Göktürks. Some studies and articles were published on Göktürks in Turkey till nowadays. But there were only superfical insights in these works. They were not enough to throw light onto the activities of the Turgesh in the Central Asia. Therefore it was planned to give rise to a detailed study which is based on the Chinese Annuals about the Turgesh and his activities. In order to give detaile about history of Turks, we should apply to Chinese resources as we know, because the Turkish works (inscriptions) in that field are very limited and the oldest knowledge exist in the Chinese classics. To contribute to Central Asia Turkish history studies and to complete Turkish history as a whole we used survey (general screening) method during examinator given Chinese history works, and the records belonging to Turkish were maintained, and the names of places and tribes and titles were stated. Then the relationships among Turgesh and the other tribes, states and branches of tribe were tried to be explained. When the resources are examined, it can be seen that the Turgesh has very important status in history of Central Asia. First of all the tribe who saved the Western Regions and the tribes and in the same place during the period of Arabic extention and hindered this movement was Turgesh. After t he decline of the Göktürks, they brought together the other branches of Turks and they had to all tribes. It was very important mission for Turgesh. They were the first to use coin in their monetary system. Lastly, we hope that this study which gave some information about the Turgesh and his hegemony would be helpfull to the other investigator. 66
