This project presents a review of the Higgs mechanism in the SM. It shows theoretical basic Higgsreleated topics. Research into the Higgs sector has been done recently at the LHC. One of the dominant processes is gluon-gluon fusion for Higgs production. Moreover Higgs is observed via its decay into two photons. For this reason, this masters project makes a calculation of the crosssection of gluon fusion and that of the decay rate of Higgs to diphoton in the SM. The observed cross-section is larger almost by a factor of two. Thus, it may be a sign of new physics. For this reason the e ects of new physics on gg ! have been studied in this project.
