Nowadays, the challenging environment of automobile industry forms obstacles for companies to have sustainable competitive advantage. According to Barney (1991), valuable, rare, inimitable and non-substitutable resources are the basis of the sustainable competitive advantage. In order to have this sustainable competitive advantage, companies need to understand their resources well and generate valuable strategies that include their resources. Two leader automotive manufacturer Tofas Fiat and Ford Otosan also perform in Turkish automotive market for decades and the factors behind their successful position in the market has been analysed in this research. By investigating the R&D knowledge, human resource management, energy and waste management and brand equity of these companies, it was tried to find out whether there is a differential contribution of these resources on these companies' performances or not.
