Özet (Çeviri)
The effect of mood on emotional prosody perception (EPP), the ability to discern the emotional intonation of a speaker, has not been well studied in patients with bipolar disorder (BD). The aim of this study was to determine the degree to which EPP was affected by healthy participants' mood state or mood trait, mood of stimuli, or an interaction between these. 75 participants were screened on a number of questionnaires measuring low, neutral, or elevated mood states or traits. They then participated in four separate tasks: an emotional prosody discrimination task, an emotional filtered sentences task, an emotional prosody identification task, and a stress prosody identification task. Results were analysed using a series of ANOVAs for each task, with score on each mood scale as in independent variable and response times and accuracy scores for each type of stimulus as dependent variables. Mood affected performance on all tasks, which indicates that mood affects EPP in general. Generally the results show that people with mood scores near the mean perform the best on all measures, with highest accuracy scores and lowest response times, while people with extreme scores at either end have the poorest performance. Participants with neutral mood scores were not characterised by impaired emotion perception on any task. Tasks and stimuli varied in the degree to which they were affected by mood state and/or mood trait measures. The findings support the conclusion that both mood and state characteristics of mood affect the ability to both identify and discriminate emotional prosody. This study should be replicated with a sample of BD patients, to aid in gaining a deeper understanding of emotional prosody difficulties in the BD population.
