Relation between vocational health high school students academic achievement in vocational courses and their professional performance in application courses

Özet

According to the results obtained in the resarch according to the results of the correlation coefficients calculated to determine the relation between academic achievement in vocational courses, attitude towards profession, and professional performance, the highest relation was found between Microbiology and Immunization (r = 0.63). The relation level (r = 0.25) of professional performance and attitude towards profession was not meaningful. According to the results of stepwise regression analysis concerning the ability of academic achievement in vocational courses to predict professional performance, Microbiology and Ummunization course, Health of Mother and Family Planning course were found at meaningful level. It's seen that Microbiology and Immunization course is the must powerful predictor of professional performance (r = 0.634). This variable followed by Health of Mother and Family Planing course (r = 0.704). Besides the vocational courses, with the addition of attitude towards profession into the equation of prediction ability, 54 % of the varition in professional performance can be explained. In this case the above mentioned coruses and attitude towards profession play an important role in improving objectives of the school. Therefore; in realising objectives of these courses and its objective behaviours, educational cases and assesment phases should be given priority and in education programmes behaviours to develop attitude towards profession and educational cases to realise these behaviours should be organised. According to these results; various proposals were put forward about developing educational programmes related with training more qualified manpower in Vocational Health High-schools and about assesments made in student selection.SUMMARY In this research, the aim was to determine the level of relation between Vocational Health Hihg-school Students' academic achievment in vocational courses, their attitude towards the profession and their performance in fields of application. Data obtained from marks given by teachers as indicator of academic achievement in vocational courses and from attitude scale points to determine attitude towards profession and from observation form point to determine professional performans. Observation form consists of 25 behaviours. The observation was performed by three observatiors separately but spontaneously. Mathematical averages of observator assesments were taken and included in the analysis as observation point of students. Pentad grading scale was used in observation form. Attitude scale consists of 20 attitudes, half positive half negative. The Cornbach Alpha reliability coefficient of this scale is.88. In analysis of the obtained data, mathematical average of data related with all variables, standard deviation and intercorrelations were calculated.
