Fuat Gökçe Eylül 1996, 279 pages Bu tezde, geleneksel dokuyu yalnızca kentin ayrılmaz bir parçası olarak, ya da kendisini oluşturan, korumaya değer olan ya da olmayan, öğelerinin toplamı olarak değil, aynı zamanda öğelerinin birbirleriyle ve çevreyle olan ilişkilerinin oluşturduğu karakteriyle bir bütün olarak bir koruma konusu olarak kabul eden bir koruma projesi hazırlanması amaçlanmıştır. Kendi içinde bir çeşitlilik ve zenginlik sunan ve aynı zamanda geleneksel bir dokunun parçası olan izmit Çukurçeşme Sokağı, kent karakterini oluşturan ilişkiler bütünlüğünün ana öğesi olan sokak ölçeğinin bir örneği olarak projeye konu olarak seçilmiştir. Çalışma süreci, alanın karakterin belirleyicilerinden yola çıkarak sürekliliğini sağlamak amacına uygun olarak, bir anlamda öğelerin birbirleri ve bütünle olan ilişkileriyle oluşan bütünlüğü tanımaya yönelik olarak, kent ölçeğinden yapı ölçeğine doğru yürütülmüştür. Sonuç olarak, konunun üç ölçekte ele alındığı bir koruma önerisi getirilmiştir. Kent ölçeğinde, koruma planlamasına zemin oluşturacak koşullar belirlenmiş,sokağın bir bütün olarak ve ögelerininde bireysel olarak korunmasına yönelik öneriler onu izlemiştir

ABSTRACT A STREET SCALE CONSERVATION PROJECT FOR ÇUKURÇEŞME STREET, İZMİT Topçu, Hicran M.S. in Restoration, Architecture Supervisor Inst Fuat Gökçe September 1996, 279 pages In this thesis it was mainly aimed to prepare a conservation project taking the traditional tissue not only the integral part of the city or the sum of its elements some of which worth to preservation while some do not, but also as a subject of conservation as a whole with its character that is composed by the interrelation of its elements into each other and into the environment Çukurçeşme Street in izmit, which presents a variety and richness in itself and a part of a traditional urban tissue, was chosen as the subject of the conservation project as an example of the street scale which composes one of the main units of the completeness of relationships that make up the city character. The whole process was carried on from the city scale to the building scale in a way trying to recognize the completeness of the relationships of the elements into each other and into the whole rather than just examining what is existent, in order to provide the continuity of the site through utilizing the the determinants that make up its character. mAs a result, a conservation proposal was produced taking the subject in three scales. In city scale, the guidelines that will be helpful in the production of a conservation plan to be carried on were determined, white the proposal for the street conservation as a whole and the proposals for the conservation of individual buildings have followed it.
