Özet
Bu çalışma boşluk kavramının başka kavramlarla ilişkisine değinerek kurduğu diyalogu ve diğer disiplinlerdeki algılanışına dair fikirleri kapsamaktadır. Tezin tamamında etkili olan literatür okuması üzerinden boşluk kavramıyla fiziksel ya da zihinsel ilişkiler kuran proje örneklemeleri üzerinde durulmuştur. Fikirlerin mimari perspektifte nasıl değerlendirildiğine dair bir araştırmayı kapsayan bu tezde, boşluk kavramının mimarlık-bilimi ve mimarlık-bilgisi arasında edindiği yer hakkındaki savlar geliştirilmeye çalışılmıştır. İnceleme boyunca ifade edilmek istenen boşluğun barındırdığı potansiyellerdir. Öncelikle değinilen ilk bölümde boşluk sözcüğünün sözlük karşılıkları ve etimolojik olarak nerede bulunduğu incelenmiştir. Türkçe karşılıklarında hangi sözcüklerle eş anlamlı kullanılabildiğine bakılırken, İngilizce ifadelerdeki hangi kelimelerin boşluk kavramını karşılayabildiği incelenmiştir. İkinci bölümde boşluk ve sezgi ilişkisi başta olmak üzere, algı ile ilgili ifadelerde felsefi perspektifteki boşluk hitabına dikkat çekilmektedir. Algının ve sezginin boşluk üzerindeki etkileriyle beraber boşluğun nasıl bir alana yayıldığı araştırılmıştır. Sınır ile oluşturduğu dualite ve sonsuzluk algısı arasında durduğu noktada öze dair aldığı konum aranmaktadır. Keyfi söylemlerdeki ifadesi ve mimarideki kabuk meselesinin ele alınışı anlatılmıştır. İlkçağ'dan günümüze dek felsefeyle ve fizikle olan ilişkisi, ardından sanat ile kurduğu diyaloğun yansımalarıyla boşluğun doğrudan ifade ettikleri hakkında yapılan okumalar üçüncü bölümde ele alınılmıştır. Edebiyat veya şiir etkisiyle boşluğun aldığı şekiller veya resimdeki boşluğun ifadesi kavramsal sanat bağlamında ortaya konmaktadır. 1900'lü yıllardan itibaren sanatçıların toplum ile ilişkilerinde de kendilerini ifade yöntemi gibi kullandıkları boşluk kavramının 20. yüzyıl sonuna dek önemli atfedilen işleri örneklenmeye çalışılmıştır. Çalışmanın ana gövdesi olarak nitelenebilen dördüncü bölümde mimarlık bağlamında boşluğun oluşumları ve oluşturdukları kuramsal olarak dile getirilmeye çalışıldığı gibi, dikkat çekici olduğu düşünülen yapı örnekleri ve kaotik zihin ürünü projelerle incelenmeye çalışılmaktadır. Mimarlık-bilimi ve mimarlık-bilgisi ayrımına dikkat çekilerek mimarlık terminolojisindeki mekân, hacim ve form gibi ifadelerle kurduğu ilişki irdelenmektedir. Bernard Tschumi, Daniel Libeskind, Tadao Ando ve Rem Koolhaas çalışmalarından verilen örneklerle bu mimarların kurdukları düşünsel senaryolar boşluk kavramının içinde okunmaya çalışılmaktadır. Bir örnekleme olarak; kentsel bellekteki bir yapı vasıtasıyla boşluğun yaratabileceği etki Notre Dame Kilisesi yangını üzerinden tarihteki büyük bir yangınla ilişkilendirilerek ele alınmıştır. Sonuç bölümünde çalışmanın nihayetindeki düşünceler tartışılmaya çalışılmış ve varılan yer hakkında bilgi verilmiştir. Boşluk kavramının eş anlamlı olarak kullanılan sözcüklerle beraber değerlendirilerek ve kapsayıcılığına değinilerek, bir nesnenin kavranışını nasıl etkilediği sorgulanmıştır. Çalışmanın motivasyonuyla beraber, ileride boşluk konusunda ne şekilde bir yol izlenebileceğine dair fikirler belirtilmiştir.

This study consists of the dialogue that space/void generates by referring its relationship with other disciplines and the ideas of its comprehension by them. Throughout the literature reading and research, which are effective in the whole thesis, the project conceptions that establish physical or mental relations with the concept of space/void are emphasized. In this thesis, which includes a research on how ideas are evaluated in an architectural perspective, arguments about the notion of space between the architecture-science (architecturology) and architecture-knowledge (architecturological) have been tried to be developed. The potential that the space embodies is desired to be expressed along this research. In the first chapter, firstly, the dictionary equivalents of the word“space”and its etymology has been examined. The main subject of the thesis“boşluk”which includes space/void has several other meanings in Turkish language, e.g., gap, emptiness, place, nothingness, clearance. These etymologic differences and their effects on the understanding of the space/void in different languages have been discussed along this chapter. In the second chapter, attention is drawn to the speeches in the philosophical perspective in the expressions related to perception, especially the relation of emptiness and intuition. Furthermore, the effects of the perception and intuition on the space/void have been investigated. The research focuses on the position of the core at the point where it stands between duality and infinity perception it creates with the border. In addition to that, the expression of space/void in arbitrary discourse and the approach of the shell issue in architecture are explained. The readings about the relation between philosophy and physics, the reflections of the dialogue with art and the expressions of the space/void were discussed in the third chapter. The different forms that space/void have by the influence of literature and poetry and the expression of it in the art of painting have been discussed in the context of the conceptual art. It was also tried to refer the important work that centers the notion of“space/void”which is used by the artists as a method of expression in their relations with society from the beginning of 1900s to the end of 20th century. The fourth chapter of this study is the main body since its purpose is to reflect the formation of space/void and its creations in the context of architecture. In order to articulate these reflections, the remarkable buildings and the projects that are the productions of chaotic-minds have been investigated in depth. By drawing attention to the distinction between architecture-science and architecture-knowledge, the relationship of the space/void with place, volume and form have been discussed. With the examples given from the well-known works of architects like Bernard Tschumi, Daniel Libeskind, Tadao Ando and Rem Koolhaas, their imagination have been tried to re-read in this concept of space/void. The impact of space/void that can create on the collective urban memory through a building has been investigated with the recent fire incident of Notre Dame Cathedral. As a conclusion, the resultant ideas of this study have been discussed. In addition, the final point which all the discussion about space/void brings us has been articulated. It has been questioned that how space/void and other synonymical notions affect the comprehension of an object. With the motivation of this study, the thoughts have been revealed on the practical path for the future work on this topic
