Özet
Bu çalışma postmodern anlatı tekniği ile Doris Lessing'in Briefing For A Descent Into Hell ve D.M. Thomas'ın The White Hotel adlı romanlarında, bilim ve edebiyat temaları üzerinden başkarakterlerin kendini gerçekleştirme çabasını postmodern anlatı tekniğinin nasıl yansıttığını incelemektedir. Önceki dönemlerden farklı yaklaşım ve metodlara sahip olan ve geleneksel olmayan doğası sebebiyle postmodern edebiyatta anlatı tekniği farklı bir sorunsal teşkil etmektedir. Bu kendine özgü yapısı gereği, bu iki postmodern romanda temaların aktarımının belli bir biçemde ve ötesinde sunulma süreçleri tez içinde bulgulanmaktadır. Bu tez çokyapımlılık, çoğul anlatı tekniği, merkezin yitmesi/çoğul odaklılık (desantralizasyon) ve metinlerarasılık gibi postmodern kavramlar içermektedir ve postmodern anlatı tekniğinin bu yaklaşımları söz konusu romanların tezde daha uygun incelenebilmesi için özellikle vurgulanmaktadır. Haliyle, tez postmodern anlatı tekniğinin söz konusu romanlarda nasıl bir işlevi olduğunu bilim ve sanat gibi tematik unsurlarla bireyin kendini gerçekleştirme çabası üzerinden incelemektedir ve yine bu romanlardaki anlatı tekniğiyle örneklemektedir. Sonuç olarak bu tezde, postmodern romanda anlatı tekniğinin, postmodern temalarla işlenmesi ve bunun romanlardaki konu bağlamındaki izdüşümünün nasıl gösterildiği, ayrıca postmodern edebiyatın kendine has yaklaşımını söz konusu romanlarda biçemsel olarak nasıl ortaya koyduğu, sanat ve edebiyatın toplumla beraber/topluma rağmen kişinin kendini gerçekleştirme çabasındaki rolü bulgulanmaktadır.

This study aims to analyze the process of self-realization of the protagonists in Briefing For A Descent Into Hell and The White Hotel and the function of science and literature on this process supported by the contribution of the postmodern narrative technique. It examines the possible interrelation of narrative technique and the theme of self-realization by relying on the general outpouring of the novels. The postmodern narrative technique is peculiar to itself in terms of its varied approaches and methods. This thesis comprises of some postmodern concepts such as heterogeneity, multiplicity, decentralization, and intertextuality and these aspects of postmodern narrative technique are remarkably given emphasis for the sake of a more fitting examination of the novels in question. In this thesis, the function of the postmodern narrative technique is examined through the controversial interrelation of science and literature within both novels as a result of their common sort of protagonists and their interlocutors. Fragmented society and fragmented consciousness within the public and private worlds are illustrated in this thesis through a Chinese box structure of narrative in both novels revealing psychological, social, verbal and literary perspectives upon the protagonists seeking for their inner reality in the process of self-realization. Accordingly, the thesis resolves this process of the protagonists' self-realization through a theme of science and literature within/despite the“sane”society with respect to the postmodern narrative technique.
