Özet
Bu tez çalışmasında çağdaş Rus edebiyatının önde gelen yazarlarından Viktor Olegoviç Pelevin tarafından kaleme alınan Generation“П”adlı eser incelenmektedir. Sovyetler Birliği döneminde dünyaya gelen ve büyüyen Pelevin, sosyalist sistemin çöküşüyle birlikte Rusya'da yaşanan yıkıma yakından tanıklık etmiş bir yazardır. Rus toplumunun Sovyet sonrası dönemin zorluklarıyla mücadelesi ve sosyalist ideolojinin yok oluşunun yarattığı travmatik etki, Pelevin'in eserlerinin ana konusu haline gelir. Yazar, Yeltsin yönetimi tarafından daha iyi bir yaşam vaadiyle Rusya'da ekonomik, sosyal ve politik değişimlerin hızla gerçekleştirildiği doksanların sonunda yazmış olduğu Generation“П”de kapitalizme giden süreçteki değişimlerle ortaya çıkan tüketim toplumunu irdeler. Pelevin, paranın sınırsız güce sahip olduğu ve televizyon reklamlarıyla tüketime şartlandırılan kitlelerin manipüle edilerek özgür iradeden mahrum bırakıldığı bir dünya tasvir eder. Uzun yıllar sosyalist değer ve ilkelere göre şekillendirilen Rus toplumunun tüketim toplumuna dönüşümü ve bu büyük dönüşümde İntelligentsiya sınıfının rolü ise genç ve idealist bir şairden reklam metni yazarına dönüşen eserin kahramanının serüveni aracılığıyla yansıtılır. Pelevin bu kötü dünyayı betimlemek için diğer distopya yazarlarının kullandığı geleneksel yöntemlerden farklı yollar benimser. Yazarın tüketim toplumu tasviri, fantastik dünya ile post-Sovyet Rusya'sının gerçekliği arasındaki sınırın kaybolduğu kurgusal bir evrende yaratılır. Pelevin, metinlerarasılık yöntemini kullanarak çağlar öncesinin mitolojik kahramanlarına doksanlı yılların Moskova'sında yeniden can verir. Eserin omurgasını oluşturan mitler, okuru bilindik olana yabancılaştırarak eleştirel bir bakış açısı geliştirmesine olanak sağlar. Mitsel ögelerin yanı sıra Rus edebiyatına ait klasik metinler ile İngilizce sözcük ve ifadelere yer verilmesi eserin postmodern çoğulcu ve eklektik özelliklerini yansıtır.

This thesis study examines the novel Generation“П”written by Viktor Olegovich Pelevin who is one of the leading representatives of the contemporary Russian literature. Pelevin, born and raised during the Soviet era, witnessed closely the havoc that Russia faced after the collapse of the socialist system. The struggle of the Russian society with the challenges of the post-Soviet period and the traumatic psychological effect brought about by the bankruptcy of the socialist ideology, became the main themes of his works. In Generation“П”, written at the end of the nineties when Russia was still in the midst of rapid economic, social and political transformation, wrapped by the Yeltsin administration in promises of a forthcoming better life, the author exposes and examines a byproduct of such sweeping changes towards capitalism - the emergence of a consumer society. Pelevin depicts a world in which money has unlimited power and masses, manipulated and deprived of free will, are conditioned by television advertisements into mindless consumption. The ambiguous place of intelligentsia in this spectacular transformation of the Russian society, which for decades had been molded according to the socialist values and principles, into a consumer society is illustrated through the experience of the protagonist Vavilen Tatarski - initially a young idealistic poet who ends up working as copywriter. To depict this wicked world, Pelevin relies on techniques that are different from those traditionally used by writers in the genre of dystopia. His exposure of the consumer society is set in a fictional universe in which borders between fantastic world and the reality of post-Soviet Russia are extremely blurred. Pelevin uses intertextuality to bring the mythological heroes of ancient times back to life in the 1990s Moscow. References to mythology, which form the backbone of the work, invite the reader to develop a critical perspective by alienating him or her from the familiar. Beside mythical elements, use of Russian literary texts and English words and expressions together reflect the postmodernist pluralistic and eclectic character of the novel.
