Özet
ÖZET Çalışma grubumuzu H.Ü. Dişhekimliği Fakültesi Ortodonti A.B.D.'a tedavi amacıyla başvurmuş daimi dentisyonda, büyüme ve gelişimin aktif dönemini geçirmiş, tedavi başında en az 3 mm örtülü kapanışa ve brakifasiyal veya mesofasiyal yüz tipine sahip 15 birey oluşturmuştur. Bu bireylerden sekizi Ricketts Bioprogresiv tedavi yaklaşımı prensiplerine uygun olarak alt ve üst utility arklar ile ve diğer yedi hasta da Burstone Segmental Ark tekniği prensiplerine göre alt ve üst base-ark ile tedavi edilmiştir. Her bireyden tedavi başında (T1) ve örtülü kapanış açılır açılmaz (T2) alınan lateral sefalogramlar üzerinde, bu iki tekniğin meydana getirdikleri değişiklikler karşılaştırmalı olarak değerlendirilmiştir. Tedavi sonunda, heriki tekniğinde örtülü kapanışı açmada başarılı olduğu görülmüştür. Burstone grubunda alt ve üst keserlerde "önemli miktarda net intrüzyon elde edilirken, Ricketts grubunda keserlerde meydana gelen intrüzyon önemli bulunmamıştır. Ricketts grubunda alt ve üst keserlerin aksiyel eğilimlerinde belirgin artış bulunmuştur, oysa Burstone grubunda keserlerin aksiyel eğilimlerinde önemli bir değişiklik meydana gelmemiştir. Her iki grupta da tedaviye bağlı olarak yüz yüksekliğinde ve konveksitesinde önemli bir değişiklik ortaya çıkmamıştır.

ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to compare the skeletodental changes and the efficacy of overbite correction achieved by Ricketts Bioprogressive Therapy and the Burstone Segmented Arch Technique. The sample comprised 15 nongrowing patients who had brachifacial or mesofacial growth patterns with at least 3 mm overbite. Eight patients werw treated with upper and lower utility arches and the seven patients were treated with upper and lower base-arches. Lateral cephalograms taken before treatment (T1) and immediately after the overbite correction achieved, were evaluated. Statistical analysis was performed on the collected data. The results showed that both techniques produced a highly significant overbite reduction. With both of the techniques there were minimal increases in facial gnomon, oral gnomon and horizontal plane-mandibular plane angle, but no anterior facial height increases were seen. The Burstone group showed significant upper and lower incisor intrusion while the maxillary incisors in the Ricketts group showed significant flaringduring treatment. Mandibular incisors showed less flaring.with both of the techniques. There was no significant upper and lower incisor intrusion in the Ricketts group.
