Özet
İslam tarihi boyunca halifelik bir yönetim tarzı olarak benimsendiğinden, İslam devletleri tarafından hem dini hem de siyasi bir yetki olarak kullanılmıştır. Bu miras İslam Peygamberi ve Hulefa-i Raşidin dönemlerinden kalmıştır. Çünkü, onlar barış zamanında hem dini lider hem de siyasi lider, savaş zamanında da başkomutan görevlerini üstleniyorlardı. Emevi ve Abbasi dönemlerinde saltanata dönüşen hilafet makamı Memlükler döneminde sembolik bir görüntü sergilemiştir. Osmanlı Devleti'nde hilafet makamının Memlükler'den alınması idari ve siyasi açısından bir dönüm noktasıdır. Halifeliğin alınmasından sonra Osmanlı İmparatorluğu'nda yönetim anlayışı ve siyasi iktidara meşruiyet sağlayan kavramlar önemli bir değişime uğramıştır. Böylece halifelik kurumu, Osmanlı'da dini ve siyasi otoriteyi önemli ölçüde etkilemiştir. Hukuk sistemi büyük ölçüde İslam Hukuku temeline dayanan Osmanlı'da hilafet ile birlikte siyasi iktidarın meşruiyet zemini daha da güçlendirilmiştir.

The caliphate was adopted as a government style throughout the history of Islam, it was used by Islamic states as both a religious and a political authority. This heritage is remained from the periods of The Islamic Prophet and Hulefa-i Rashid. Because, they were both religious leaders and political leaders in the peacetime, and they assumed the role of commander-in-chief during wartime. The receipt of the caliphate from the Mamluks in the Ottoman State is an administrative and political turning point. After the capture of the Caliphate, the concepts of management understanding and legitimacy of political power in the Ottoman Empire have undergone a major change. Thus, the institution of the caliphate influenced religious and political authority in the Ottoman State. The legal system is based on Islamic law to a great extent, and the legitimacy of political power has been further strengthened in the Ottoman Empire together with the caliphate.
