Özet
Menemen, tarih boyunca birçok farklı devletin egemenliği altına girmiştir. Menemen'in Türk hâkimiyetine giriş süreci ise Saruhanoğulları'nın, bölgeyi topraklarına katmasıyla başlamıştır. İlçenin, Osmanlı İmparatorluğu'na bağlanması 1425 yılında II. Murad döneminde olmuştur. 494 yıl boyunca Osmanlı İmparatorluğu'nun toprağı olan Menemen, 21 Mayıs 1919 günü Yunan işgaline uğramıştır. 10 Eylül 1922 tarihinde Türk ordusunun ilçeye girmesiyle özgürlüğüne kavuşan Menemen, Türkiye Cumhuriyeti'nin ilk yıllarında ise Kubilay Olayı ile gündeme gelmiştir. Menemen ile ilgili farklı dönemler ve olaylar hakkında araştırmalar olmakla birlikte, ilçenin Demokrat Parti dönemindeki durumunu inceleyen bir çalışma bulunmaması tezin konusunun belirlenmesinde etkili olmuştur. 1950 yılında Demokrat Parti'nin Türkiye'de iktidara gelmesinin ardından, Menemen'in önemi başta ekonomi olmak üzere artmıştır. İlçenin iktisadî anlamda ön plana çıkmasında etkili olan gelişmelerden biri, Menemen Ovasında yapılan ziraî sulama faaliyetlerinin daha modern tarımsal aletlerle gerçekleştirilmesi sonucunda ürün çeşitliliğinin artmasıdır. Menemen'in ekonomik anlamda öneminin artması, ilçede yetiştirilen ürünlerden elde edilen ihracat gelirlerinin yükselmesiyle olmuştur. Demokrat Parti'nin ziraat alanında uyguladığı ve tarımda makineleşmeye dayanan politikaları da ilçede yaşanan iktisadî gelişmenin artmasında etkilidir. Menemen'in ekonomik anlamda refah düzeyinin yükselmesiyle birlikte, ilçenin sosyal ve kültürel hayatında da ilerleme yaşanmıştır. Çalışmanın konusu olan Demokrat Parti Döneminde Menemen'de (1950-1960), ilçede meydana gelen siyasi, idari, sosyal, kültürel ve ekonomik gelişmeler etüt edilmiştir. Tezde, Menemen'in siyasi hayatı; genel seçimler, mitingler ve parti kongreleri üzerinden ele alınmıştır. İdari alandaki gelişmeler ise ilçenin mülki taksimatı, belediye hizmetleri ve Demokrat Parti'nin Menemen'de gerçekleştirdiği icraatlardan oluşmaktadır. Menemen'in sosyal hayatı, ilçenin nüfus durumu, derneklerin etkinlikleri, sportif faaliyetler ve asayiş olayları açısından incelenmiştir. Menemen'in kültürel hayatı hakkında bilgi veren etkinlikler ise milli eğitim çalışmaları ve eğitim kongrelerinden oluşmuştur. Demokrat Parti döneminde Menemen'in ekonomi alanında ön plana çıktığı başlıca konular, tarımsal arazileri sulama çalışmaları, mahsul müsabakaları, zirai kongreler, çiftçi günleri ve ilçede farklı bankaların açtığı şubelerden meydana gelmektedir.

Menemen has been under domination of various states over the history. Menemen's process of getting into the sovereignty of Turks started when Saruhanogulları took the region to its territory. The district was connected to the Ottoman Empire in 1425. Menemen, which was the territory of Ottoman Empire for 494 years, was put under the occupation of Greek on May 21, 1919. Menemen, which was able to earn its freedom when the army of Turks went into the district on September 10, 1922, was recognized with the Kubilay Incident in the first years of the Republic of Turkey. Even though there were researches of different periods and incidents about Menemen, the fact that there were not any studies about the situation of district in Democratic Party period has affected the process of assigning the subject of the thesis. Menemen's importance increased especially in the economical field when the Democratic Party came to power in 1950. One of the developments in making the district stand out in the economic terms is the increase in the agricultural diversity as a result of the agricultural irrigation activities carried out with the modern tools in the Menemen Plain. The increase in economic importance of Menemen has been due to the increase in the export revenues obtained from the growing products in the district. Democratic Party's policies based on machinery in terms of agriculture are also effective in increasing the economic development of the district. With the increasing prosperity level of the district in the economical field, there were also developments in the social and cultural life of Menemen. The political, administrative, social, cultural, and economic developments that occurred in the district are studied in the Menemen in the Democratic Party Period which is the subject of this work. In the thesis, the political life of Menemen was handled through rallies and party congresses. The developments in the administration consisted of the civil division, municipal services, and actions performed by the Democratic Party in Menemen. The social life of Menemen is examined in terms of developments in the population, the innovations in the acts of associations and societies, sports events, and the incidents of public security. The activities of the cultural life were examined in terms of national education studies and education congresses. The main issues that Menemen stands out in the field of the economy are irrigation of agricultural land, crop competitions, agricultural congresses, farmer days, and branches opened by different banks in the district.
