Özet (Çeviri)
Background: Interpersonal relationships, familial and social encounters affect the emotional adjustment of the adolescent. Literature supports the claim that interparental conflict (IPC) 1 intervenes with the emotional processes of children and young people. The association between adolescent depression, adult affective disorders and suicidal behavior has been revealed by extensive research. Objectives: To date, the link between IPC and adolescent depression/internalizing behavior has not been investigated distinctively. The purpose is to examine the predictive associations between IPC and adolescent depression/internalization and mediating pathways. Age and gender differences will be further investigated. Method: Web of Science, MEDLINE and Psych INFO databases were searched systematically between 1995 and June 2015. After the duplicates were removed, all published journal articles written in English were screened for eligibility. 45 studies were included in the review. Results: Predictive association was found between IPC and adolescent depressive symptoms. Children's appraisals of conflict, conflict severity and parenting were found to be the dominant mediating variables. Overall, girls report higher levels of internalizing symptoms in relation to conflict. Gender and age did not moderate the association. Conclusion: As conflict has a positive correlation with adolescent depression and internalizing behavior, existing literature underscores the importance of consensus over parenting practice, negotiating the dissidences with the family members avoiding covert conflict and violence for healthy adolescent emotional adjustment. Further causal investigation is necessary to implement changes into intervention processes. Limitations: There is heterogeneity among study characteristics. A meta-analytic approach was not included in the current study. Grey literature was not covered in this review.
