Özet (Çeviri)

The aim of this dissertation is to investigate the innovation adoption of Turkish construction industry, concentrating on reducing energy consumption of buildings and construction related practices. The need for this research was emerged from the urgency for innovation in the Turkish construction industry which caused by worldwide developing standards and requirements, increasing population, urbanisation rate and energy demand of Turkey, and, Turkey's external energy dependency. The research methods of this dissertation consisted of an extensive review of relevant literature, and, empirical data collection and analysis. The latter was carried out through interviews using semi-structured questions. The findings of this research confirm that innovation should be put and kept in the main agenda of Turkish construction industry considering: Turkey is a country that consumes massive imported energy; construction industry is largely responsible for the energy demand; and, Turkish construction industry has a considerable potential to implement innovation and its market capabilities are sufficient to deliver. However, the return focused mind-set of people, and, governmental insufficiency that causes lack of quality education and awareness hinder the industry to deliver innovation and energy efficiency. This dissertation recommends that, innovation and sustainability awareness should be raised in Turkey, and, a robust system that promotes innovation should be integrated within Turkish construction industry by cooperation of Turkish government, construction industry and universities. The government should encourage and provide more incentives to develop projects that are for communities and environment. Therewithal, energy consumption of Turkey can be reduced.
