The main objective of the thesis is to investigate the initial process of the development of capitalism in the Russian Federation in 1990s. In order to reach this objective the following goals are pursued: to come to understand the elaboration process of the policy of transformation of the socio-economic system in Russia, to investigate the reform process of the financial and monetary system of the Russian Federation, to analyse the transformation process of the economic system of the Russian Federation over the course of the privatization of the state and municipal property, to clarify the social consequences of the economic reforms in the Russian Federation in 1990s. In the master's thesis, the socio-economic approach and the principle of historicism are used as the research method. The thesis consists of the introduction, six chapters and the conclusion. The chapters are structured chronologically. In the first chapter the elaboration of the policy of the socio-economic progress is investigated. In the second chapter the first steps in the radical economic transformation — the liberalisation of prices and the freedom of trade are investigated. The third chapter is dedicated to the voucher and money privatization of the state and municipal property. In the fourth chapter the monetary reforms of the 1990s are investigated. In the fifth chapter the financial pyramid of GKO-OFZ and the 1998 default are investigated. The sixth and final chapter is dedicated to the social consequences of the economic transformations of the 1990s. The thesis asserts that the neoliberal policy carried out in 1990s in Russia was not an anomaly or an arbitrary decision, but rather the realization of the demands of the newborn Russian bourgeoise by liberals. According to the thesis a monopolistic capitalism was formed in Russia towards to the end of the investigated period.
