Previous studies reported that cognition is a factor that can affect social functioning. Moreover, it has been shown in the literature that emotion recognition and executive functions (EF) are among the factors affecting social functioning. Accordingly, the purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of emotion recognition and EF on social functioning. A total of 105 individuals participated in the study. A sociodemographic data form, the Reading the Mind in the Eyes Test (RMET), and the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST), and the Social Functioning Scale (SFS) were administered. The results revealed that there is statistically significant positive relationship between WCST (number of Correct and Categories subtests) and SFS (Prosocial Activity and Employment subtests). There is statistically significant positive relationship between RMET neutral and prosocial activities subtest of SFS. The relationship that we found between executive functions and social functionality are consistent with previous studies. Interestingly, it has shown that individuals who can recognize neutral emotions have more tend to participate in prosocial activities. Our results may provide a new perspective on treatment strategies on how to improve social functioning of the individuals.
