As long as there are rules, there is a need to interpret them. In this context, knowing the purpose of the rule is an essential aid in finding its correct meaning to reach a fair conclusion. The teleological interpretation, which envisages the purpose of the law, is widely used in the interpretation of treaties in international law. This method of interpretation has been used in many cases by the International Court of Justice, particularly in the judicial body, and has greatly contributed to the development of this area of law. In the light of the Court's judgments and recommendations, it is seen that this principle has been applied more frequently in the past. Still, after the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties, it has been observed that its use has been changed and some limitation has been applied to it. Even now, the teleological approach is a general rule in the interpretation procedure, and its use by the Court is quite common.
