Özet (Çeviri)

Radical right populism in Eastern Europe has for so long been perceived as ineffective compared to their Western European counterparts as they did not navigate mainstream politics. This seems to have changed in the past decade with the rise of radical right populism and its votes in the region and radicalization of the mainstream politics, especially in Poland and Hungary in which the right wing populist parties rose to rule and embedded much of the radical right political agenda into the mainstream politics. The causes of this strong impact by the radical right on Eastern European politics is open to dispute. While some academics explain it via the traditional Post-Soviet legacy of the Eastern Europe argument, others bring about an alternative perspective on the subject by examining recent socio economic structure in this particular region, and their conceivable contribution to the rise of radical right and populism. Some of the so called possible socio economic causes analyzed by the latter group such as deeply embedded xenophobia in Eastern European society, nationalism, religiosity, backlash against democratization, Euroskepticism and most recently immigration, are obviously not reserved to Eastern Europe as they are also observed worldwide, even in the most liberal Western countries. However as their effects did produce allegedly the strongest results in this specific region by having the mainstream politics radicalized, it is more viable to examine the causes and effects of radical right and populist movement in relation to Eastern European countries. Building up a brief comparison of the East and the West in regard to radical right populism would help comprehending the differing results of it in each region. Thus, this paper will first give insights into the concept of radical right populism, its formation over time in Western and Eastern Europe and its intrusion into the mainstream politics in Eastern Europe, specifically in Hungary and Poland. These two countries are intentionally chosen as they are leading economic and political actors in Eastern Europe while they are also active participants of the European Union and in spite of that they are the two European countries governed by a political agenda that is strongly impacted by the radical right populist movement.
