The future of LNG is truly global and is expected to rapidly evolve as the global supply and demand balance continues to shift. Given the significance of its growth, this work examines the legal transformation of the LNG value chain and the related documents, so to illustrate the context in which LNG trade and businesses are evolving. The work first discusses the changing face of the LNG value chain, the reasons why the traditional chain structure is broken, and some common contractual structuring issues attached to it. As the traditional value chain gets more complex, the LNG sales contract that is crucial to monetize the value chain will encounter increased commercial tension and challenges between parties. It will equally become vulnerable to the factors that have abolished the traditional value chain structure. As a result, (1)contract forms, (2) delivery terms, and (3) particular clauses that are distinct to the LNG sales contracts will have to address the commercial realities of a more sophisticated and global LNG trade. All in all, key legal issues attached to the principal changes and developments of the new LNG era will be further assessed and identified.
