Özet (Çeviri)
The research paper is an attempt to examine the relationship between foreign direct investment (FDI) and manufacturing sector growth in the five BRICS economies namely, Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa over the period from 1997 through 2017. Empirically, cointegration, granger causality and random effect panel data analysis are applied. The results show that foreign direct investment, economic growth and government expenditure are cointegrated at the panel level, indicating the presence of long run equilibrium relationship between them. However, there is heterogeneity in this long run relationship among the BRICS countries. While it is positive for Brazil, Russia and South Africa, this relationship is negative for China and India. Furthermore, Granger Causality Test claims that only for Brazil and South Africa FDI the relationship FDI and manufacturing sector output growth is a causality. Random effect panel data analysis also confirms the critical role of FDI on manufacturing sector. Moreover, panel data analysis results also claim government expenditure and exchange rate positively related to manufacturing sector output growth. Therefore, overall, our study propose that policymakers should be aware of the fact that FDI's effect on manufacturing sector is heterogenous. To achieve desired effect of FDI on manufacturing sector, policy makers should accomplish necessary institutional organizations.
