Turhal is a small city under the government of Tokat Province in Black Sea Region of Turkey. The city has a history for almost five thousand years and experienced several cultures for centuries. Existence of Yeşil (Green) River that passes through the city center makes the city valuable in terms of urbanism. As the project site, the riverfront has been bearing historical and urban development of Turhal and essential buildings were located along it. The city is located around the river so the riverfront has a potential to be a living urban space which marshal several activities together while reflecting the historical atmosphere of the city at the same time. This project aims to give a new value to the riverfront of Turhal under principles of urban identity, sustainability, sociality, continuity and connectivity of the area. The four possible intervention areas were identified as fragments of a holistic design after the detailed analyses of history, function, accessibility, density and mobility. Lack of social spaces along the riverfront limits citizens‟ experience of the riverfront and its relation with the city. The idea of transforming „the bridge concept‟ to social spaces and buildings over the river and connecting them with the system of a continuous platform, which allows a connection both between two sides and along the river, is based on taking advantage of the riverfront in order to provide people a new kind of experience of the city and its urban life
