The City of Melbourne where has become denser to meet its urban growth in the future, has been adversely threatened by UHI effect and hot weather through this rapid growth and climate change. As climate change is inevitable, governments urgently call back urban vegetation in Melbourne CBD, which is replaced with impervious surfaces to obviate these urban environmental issues by utilising their shading and cooling effects. When utilizable spaces on a large number of tall buildings' envelopes in Melbourne CBD is considered, a question is arisen through this research that can the building's facades in Melbourne CBD meet with urban vegetation. Unfortunately, designing and implementing vertical greenery systems are more complex and expensive than other urban green infrastructures. Melbourne CBD hosts just a small number of green wall implementations compare with other green infrastructures. This research paper reviews literature, analyses case studies and policy documents in national, international and Melbourne contexts to explore what opportunities and issues are hidden behind green wall design implementations. The research aims at supporting green wall practicability on the buildings' facades in Melbourne CBD as an innovative solution to reduce UHI effects and increase urban resilience against hot weather in Melbourne CBD.
