Özet (Çeviri)

This study uses aggregate data for 30 OECD countries for the period 1990-2015, following Gerdtham and Ruhm's (2006) estimation methodology for the purpose of understanding the effect of macroeconomic conditions on mortality. In addition to augmenting the number of countries analyzed and extending the period of time in authors' research, mortality causes are also gender-specifically examined. Not only cause-specific mortality rates but also gender and cause-specific ones are examined. Another contribution of this thesis is to underline that estimation decisions regarding that using fixed-effects and/or country-specific time trends may cause even sign change of coefficient. The study not only supports that mortality is procyclical in total and for both genders as well however it is weaker than it was before, but also demonstrates that the estimation method severely affects the results.
