Özet (Çeviri)

This dissertation presents a detailed overview of the legality of responses of various countries to the refugee crisis. Recently, this topic and burden-sharing issues have often been addressed by EU member states and various stakeholders in a lively discussion that unfortunately has not resulted in significant world-wide outcomes, since countries tend to be conservative regarding their internal security and financial power. Moreover, the arguments presented in the debate often seem to reflect one-sided views that end up returning asylum seekers to a country where they would face persecution or ill-treatment. For this reason, the dissertation aims at examination of legal aspects of the safe third country concept and temporary protection used in some circumstances to bypass the principle of non-refoulement. The EU-Turkey Statement on 18 March 2016 enables the return of asylum seekers back to Turkey without any substantial examination of their asylum claims. This enforced return has been criticised in some aspects, and Turkey has been at the heart of the debate with respect to the safe-country label as recognised by Greece after the EU-Turkey Statement and the temporary protection status granted to protection seekers in Turkey
