Özet (Çeviri)

Summary Due to increasing importance of individual effectiveness and innovativeness within organization in last two decades in Turkey and high demands of organizations for academic investigation to recognize characteristics of individuals' at work, climate for teamwork has been investigated. The Team Climate Inventory (Anderson & West, 1994) was translated and adapted into Turkish and administered to a total of 306 participants in six different private industrial organizations. This study tested the psychometric properties of the Team Climate Inventory, with a Turkish sample of work groups and a Turkish version of Team Climate Inventory (T-TC1). The results of this study are to large extent congruent with the results from the original study with British samples of work groups (Anderson & West, 1994); Swedish sample of work groups (Agrell & Gustafson, 1994); and Finnish sample of low and high complexity jobs work group (Kivimaki et al., 1997). The item analysis indicated that all items except item 44 should be retained in the Turkish version of Team Climate Inventory. Further, the reliability in terms of internal consistency of the five group dimension scales making up the TCI is well above level of acceptance (r =.85). A value of.70 or above is considered to be acceptable levels of homogeneity by most researchers ( Anderson & West, 1994). The present study of item analysis and reliability tests supported the original set of items in the five factor Team Climate Inventory (Anderson & West, 1994); Swedish version of Team Climate Inventory (Agrell & Gustafson, 1994); and Finnish version of Team Climate Inventory (Kivimaki et al., 1997). IVA principal component factor analysis suggested six different factors for Turkish sample of work groups in six different organization, namely; participative safety, task orientation, vision, support for innovation, perceived value and social acceptance. The fact that the factors were retrieved differently than (Anderson & West, 1994); Swedish version of Team Climate Inventory (Agrell & Gustafson, 1994); and Finnish version of Team Climate Inventory (Kivimaki et al., 1997) may reflect differences in sample characteristics but may also reflect more general differences in work climate between the four countries. All differences between organizations with regarding different factors of Turkish version of Team Climate Inventory and Organizational Commitment Test indicate that those who have more innovative team climate have more willing to identify with their organizations. In other words as it was expected there is a positive relation between innovative team climate and identification scale of Organizational Commitment test. This also may indicates the construct validity of T-TCI, since it provides a direct check on how well the test fulfills its function. At a more general point, this study together with the other psychometric studies of the TCI (Anderson & West, 1994; Agrell & Gustafson, 1994; Kivimaki et al., 1997) provided a substantial support for the utility of TCI as a self report measure of team climate to be widely used as a research and consultancy tool. More importantly, the structure of TCI remains quite stable and intact even when translated in different languages and applied in different organizations with different organizational cultures in different countries. Organizational climate audits, training needs analysis for team building and management, and selection of new member into teams are potential different areas that TCI can easily be used.
