To draw a Europe map with borders is a very hard issue because it spans sometimes to Azerbaijan which is the member of European Council. But to be a European is one of the most challenging questions when it comes to Turkey especially. Although Turkey is part of Europe geographically, having a great economy than many of the member states of EU and member of Custody Union for more than twenty years becoming part of EU has always been kept far away by putting diverse obstacles in front of her like Cyprus issue. Keeping in view of its Turkish population and strategic location Cyprus has always great importance for Turkey that faced USA embargo in 1974 during“Cyprus Peace Operation”. Since May 2004 after Cyprus Republic became EU member, relations between two parties evolved to new era. The membership of Cyprus Republic constitutes another significant obstacle for accession of Turkey to EU. Because Turkey cannot become a member without recognizing Cyprus Republic which has already been member of EU as of 1 May 2004. However there are two states on the island one is Cyprus Republic internationally recognized the other Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus recognized by only Turkey. Cyprus issue still stands the biggest problem in front of EU membership of Turkey also Turkish Cypriots are the other sufferers of this situation because they are living on an island part of EU which does not include them. In this situation it is hard to expect an objective view from EU that is one side of the issue for solving Cyprus problem.
