Özet
Globalization facilitated to work abroad, and self-initiated expatriates became more common. Many studies focused on the expatriates' adjustment process and their problems. This study aimed to find how culture-related business practices affect Turkish self-initiated expatriates' work adjustment in Japan. It also investigated the effect of cultural differences on self-initiated expatriates. A sum of six Turkish selfinitiated expatriates is interviewed. The results demonstrated that consulting managers, team decisions, and low competitiveness in the workplace facilitated their work adjustment. On the other hand, high formality negatively affected their work adjustment. In addition, this study finds proof to support the idea that expatriates might also face difficulties in similar cultural situations as much as in different cultural situations.
