Jamal Khashoggi, a prominent Washington Post columnist, was killed while visiting the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey in 2018. The murder of Khashoggi drew global attention and international news outlets showed a great interest in the matter. This study, as a first, analyzed the news coverage of Khashoggi's killing in the US press and evaluated the incident in terms of the mediatization of politics. Employing Strömbäck's (2008) four-dimensional model as a theoretical framework, this dissertation particularly focused on the third and fourth stages of mediatization where media logic or political logic govern media content and political processes. In this regard, qualitative methods of content and discourse analyses were used for the research. The analysis revealed that the US press covered Khashoggi's murder based on negativity, personalization and international relations. It also found connections between the articles' discourse and ideology and power. Lastly, the study concluded that even though the US press were successful in governing the news content, regarding the Khashoggi case, they were not dominant enough to impact political processes in the United States according to the media's demands.
