Özet

Autonomous Vehicles (AVs), which are thought to be the future of the transportation sector and have becoming a very popular topic today. Therefore, this new mode has attracted many researchers and many studies have been conducted to study AVs from different points of view. The majority of the studies have shown that AVs are more beneficial both in terms of traffic and environmental impact when used as shared (SAV) rather than individual modes. Despite this result, the number of studies examining SAVs is not very large, and studies examining Automated Taxis (ATs) are scarcely if any. Existing studies on AV can be divided into two broad groups: those examining the potential demand and those examining the impact on the traffic. However, we have not come across a research in the literature that studies both the potential demand for AT and its impact on the network. For this reason, this dissertation focuses on the impact of ATs on the network where the demand for AT is not based on exogenous assumptions, but it is computed based on a discrete choice model as a function of times and costs in the network as well as vehicle features (specific for ATs) and normative conformity effects. A transport model is built that includes a model for the choice of the type of taxis and a model to assign this demand to the network. The model is implemented using the software Visum from PTV. The study is applied to the city of Newcastle Upon Tyne and surroundings. Three scenarios were defined and tested. We examined the impact of in-vehicle features such as“the ability to talk to an operator during the journey with AT”,“changing the destination”; and the number of passengers of the previous day for that type of taxi on the volume. According to the results, the presence of these in-vehicle features gives ATs a great advantage over the base scenario, where no features are differentiated for AT and normal taxis. We have seen that more than half of the people who prefer NT in the base scenario preferred AT, this time. In addition to this scenario, as expected, doubling the number of customers of the previous day made ATs a more favourable option, while even halving the number could not raise the number of people who prefer NT above AT.
