Özet
Kentlerin sosyo-ekonomik gelişmesine bağlı olarak nüfusunun hızla artması, bu kentleri heterojen ve kozmopolit mekânlara dönüştürmektedir. Kentlerin kozmopolitlik düzeyinin artmasının, göçle gelen nüfusa bağlı olarak kaynakların tüketilmesi, sosyal kontrolün azalması ve suça yönelmeyi de beraberinde getirdiği ifade edilmektedir. Bu çalışma Türkiye'deki illerin kozmopolitlik düzeyleri ile suç arasındaki ilişkiyi irdelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Çalışma kapsamında Türkiye'nin 81 ili baz alınarak 2016-2021 yılları arasındaki kentlerin kozmopolitlik ölçütleri ile suç sayıları arasındaki ilişki lineer regresyon analizi ile incelenmiştir. Çalışmada bağımlı değişken olarak iller bazında cezaevine giren hükümlü sayısı ve suç sayıları baz alınmış olup, bağımsız değişken olarak kentlerin kozmopolitlik düzeyini ölçmek için oluşturulan kozmopolitlik endeksi ve kontrol değişkeni olarak suç üzerinde etkisi olma ihtimali bulunan sosyo-ekonomik veriler kullanılmıştır. Bu tez çalışmasının önemi, kentlerdeki suç olgusunu kozmopolitlik kriterleri açısından değerlendiren az sayıda çalışmadan birisi, Türkiye kentleri açısından ise ilk çalışma olmasıdır. Literatürde çoğunlukla sosyo-ekonomik koşullar üzerinden kentlerdeki suç olgusu irdelenmiştir. Bu amaçla yapılan bu tez çalışması kozmopolitlik ölçütlerini analize dâhil ederek, alan özgün bir katkı sunmayı hedeflemektedir. Aynı zamanda çalışmada kullanılan kozmopolitlik kriterlerinin sonraki çalışmalara örnek teşkil etmesi beklenmektedir.

The rapid increase in population due to the socio-economic development of cities transforms these cities into heterogeneous and cosmopolitan spaces. It is stated that the increase in the level of cosmopolitanism of the cities brings with it the consumption of resources due to the immigrant population, the decrease in social control and the tendency to crime. This study aims to examine the relationship between the level of cosmopolitanism and crime in the provinces in Turkey. Within the scope of the study, the relationship between the cosmopolitanism criteria of cities and the number of crimes between the years 2016-2021, based on Turkey's 81 provinces, was examined by linear regression analysis. In the study, the number of convicts entering the prison and the number of crimes based on provinces were taken as the dependent variable, and the cosmopolitan index created to measure the cosmopolitanism level of the cities was used as the independent variable, and the socio-economic data that could have an impact on the crime was used as the control variable. The importance of this thesis study is that it is one of the few studies that evaluates the crime phenomenon in cities in terms of cosmopolitan criteria, and it is the first study in terms of Turkish cities. In the literature, the crime phenomenon in cities has been examined mostly through socio-economic conditions. For this purpose, this thesis study aims to make a unique contribution to the field by including the criteria of cosmopolitanism in the analysis. At the same time, it is expected that the cosmopolitanism criteria used in the study will set an example for future studies.
