Özet
The Internet and Web 2.0 created a new world for human beings in every aspect of life. In terms of the media sector, researchers have previously mainly focused on issues that are related to how the news production process has changed by digitalization, and what advantages and disadvantages the changes provide to journalists via looking at news content from the perspective of a professional journalist. On the other hand, the issue of citizen journalism, which has emerged with the increase in accessibility thanks to developing technologies, that is, the ability of people who do not have news-media organization ties to reach the masses by publishing news content has started to gain importance. For this reason, it is significant to show what the differences are between traditional and citizen journalism practices for grasping how the media sector carried out its works. How has it been recently and finally how it will be in the future? This thesis will be carried out in two stages. First of all, background information will be given to connect with the methodology section which is the second step of the thesis. By briefly mentioning the necessities of professional journalism and the changes it has created in the field of digitalization and journalism (especially in sports journalism, which is one of the journalism branches), the emergence of citizen journalism will be explained in detail as background information. In addition, the pros and cons of both will be shown in a comparison of traditional and citizen journalism. This section will be followed by the methodology section focusing on the impact and the power of new-generation journalism, and comparing that with conventional journalism. As a case study, '' the embargo imposed by the British government on Chelsea football club, one of the ten largest football clubs in the world, due to the Russia-Ukraine war, and how the football club was subjected to pressure as a result '' is chosen. Since the first moment the Russia-Ukraine war came to the fore, the future of Chelsea football club, owned by Russian Businessman Roman Abramovich, has been intensely discussed by both the professional English press and amateurs. Therefore, by examining the way both types of journalism practice deal with the case, the differences between the journalistic practices. For carrying the research while the Guardian newspaper (5 articles) and Daily Mail newspaper (10 articles) , which were created by professionals, were preferred in the review, 10 Chelsea Daft fans blog page (3articles) and Chelsea Mad blog page (9 articles) fan blog pages were preferred for those published by content producer citizen journalists. The review period covers the articles that include the sanctions to Chelsea and Abramovich on these pages from 26th of February 2022 to April 24th, 2022.The length of the articles, the bibliographies used, the content of the article, compliance with the ethical rules of journalism, advertisement presentation, the language of the articles, and the design analysis criteria were chosen. As a result, it can be argued that the new generation of citizen journalism has its own techniques thanks to digital technologies and differs from traditional methods. It has both drawbacks and advantages. But in terms of professionalism and journalistic ethics, it is notable that traditional journalistic practices consider them as a core of the news creation and impossible to compare from that side with the amateurs. Thus, although citizen journalism has its place in the media sector, it still can be claimed that it is a branch of traditional journalism.
