Özet
Osmanlılar İstanbul'dan bahsederken birden çok isim kullanmaktaydı ve bu isimler dönemlere göre çeşitleniyordu. Ancak Türkiye Cumhuriyeti'nin kurulmasıyla birlikte, Osmanlı döneminde İstanbul'dan bahsedilirken kullanılan çeşitli isimlerden ziyade ''İstanbul'' ibaresinin kullanımının daha yaygın ve baskın bir hale geldiğini görmekteyiz. resmen yürürlükten kaldırılıp sadece İstanbul isminin günümüze kadar kullanımda kalması, pratik ve popüler olan isimlerin tercihlerinin tarihi için değil, tarihyazımı için de önemli bir konudur. Halbuki bu konu genel olarak bazı eserlerde birkaç cümlede yer almıştır ve çoğunlukla verilen bilgi Constantinople ibaresinin ne zaman ve nasıl İstanbul'a dönüştüğü konusunda yeterli değildir. Bu durum, Constantinople ibaresinin nasıl kullanımdan kalktığı konusundaki verilerin ele alınmasını zorlaştırdığı gibi çelişkili veriler olgular bütününün bulanıklaşmasına sebep olur. Bu tez, Constantinople ibaresinin ne zaman İstanbul ibaresini dönüştüğü konusunu netleştirme ve bu konunun tutarlı bir bağlamlandırma denemesini okuyucuya sunma iddiasındadır.

The official repeal of the name Constantinople and the fact that only the name Istanbul remains in use today is an important issue not only for the choice of practical and popular names, but also for historiography. This subject has been included in a few sentences in some works in general. However, this information does not give precise information about when and how the name Constantinople turned into Istanbul. This situation complicates the data on how the term Constantinople has been obsolete, and leads to the emergence of contradictory data. The thesis clarifies the issue of when the phrase Constantinople turns into the phrase Istanbul, and presents clearer information to the reader by removing this complex body of data. The Ottomans used many names when talking about Istanbul. However, with the establishment of the Republic of Turkey, we see that the use of the phrase“Istanbul”has become more common and dominant rather than the various names used when referring to Istanbul in the Ottoman period. In the studies carried out to date, it was thought that the phrase Constantinople was not converted to Istanbul with an official regulation. The sources written on the subject supported this idea. The thesis also clarifies this issue
